The K to 8 mathematics curriculum is based on concepts introduced,
developed, mastered or maintained at each grade level. The
concepts are taught at each grade in a developmentally appropriate
level.
Math concepts are presented using overhead projectors, interactive
Smartboards, and blackboard presentations in our classrooms. To
supplement classroom presentations, computer software is being utilized
in all grades. Students work in the computer lab on individualized
lessons assigned by teachers. Computation skills are reinforced using
flashcards, number lines, computer software, and drill sheets. The
relationship to real world situations is also emphasized in the
presentation of mathematical concepts and problem solving.
Beginning in 6th grade the students are grouped for Math according to
IOWA test results, grades and class performance. Students may move
within groups by teacher and/or parent decisions. In 8th grade the
students are administered math placement tests for Central Catholic High
School.
